I am looking for white papers or the like that support backing up databases over a network in an enterprise environment is feasible.I have used this method in the past and this works fine. The problem I am having is convincing management.I tested with a simple 8GB database using Backup Jobs.IE: backup database test to disk = '\\testserver\backups\test.bakI know I could add with init or other options afterwards, but this was just a simple proof of concept.Any advice would be greatly appreciated. And yes I know there are better backup practices. However SAN storage is not an option to these servers because they are outdated. IE: SQL is running on the same server that the database is being stored to. Single disk drive. IE: everything is on C:This is a bad practice to begin with and we are trying to use a bandaid fix in the rough economic times. We cannot afford to spend over 1 million dollars on migrating these 30 servers to new hardware/backup solutions. Thanks! |
