Tim writes "We are currently building an NT cluster at our local site which will eventually be moved and implemented at another location, thus different network IP addresses. We will need to change the IP addresses once the cluster arrives in the new location. There were some concerns about whether it was possible to change the common IP address used by Microsoft Cluster Service (without rebuilding the Cluster once it moves to the new location), but I have done some testing and found that I can change this address and subnet mask on an active cluster ( I changed them and then changed them back). I was able to do this without any apparent ramifications, that is the cluster did not hang or crash.
Are there hidden issues that I am not aware of ?
Also, we would need to change the virtual IP address for SQL Server which we have not tested the IP address change on yet.
Is it possible to change this IP address as well (again without rebuilding the cluster or SQL Server), and what are the ramifications if any ?
HW/SW DB Cluster Environment:
Two (2) IBM Netfinity 7000 boxes running NT 4.0 Enterprise Edition with SP6a along with MSCS as the clustering software; SQL Server 7.0 Enterprise Edition with SP1
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
