Win XP SP2

I really hope someone will be able to help me with my problem.

I want to upgrde my XP SP2 to SP3 but have been hesitant to do so because I have a patch that I am unable to install to bring my PC up to date.

I have been trying to install the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 3 (KB955706) patch but every time I try to install the patch from Microsoft Windows Updates it downloads but fails during the installation ( Installation Failure Error Code: 0x80092004)

I have tried to research this on Google but am getting nothing but confused.

I tried to uninstall the program but it does not appear in Control Panel|Add/Remove Programs. I do find the following though:

Microsoft SQL Server 2005
Microsoft SQL Server Native Client
Microsoft SQL Server Setup Support Files (English)
Microsoft SQL Server VSS Writer

I decided that I would try to reinstall Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service so I downloaded it but during the installation it stops toward the end telling me that it is unable to could not start SQL Server Services with an Error Code: 1067
MSI (s) (5C!1C) [12:34:00:453]: Product: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition -- Error 29503. The SQL Server service failed to start.

I don't know why I have Microsoft SQL Server 2005 in Add/Remove Programs and not the Express Edition and yet have Windows Updates telling me that I need to install this patch if I do not have the Express Edition.

So, I have no idea how to proceed with fixing this problem. Since I am not familiar at all with SQL Server, I have no idea what it does, whether I need it and should I let it prevent me from going ahead and installing XP SP3 even though I have not installed the patch.

I sure hope someone will be able to walk me though getting this fixed, I would really be grateful!
