During 2005 Version using the Maintenance Plans for Full Backup and in that CLEANUP TASK was not performed then it was told as a bug and if that is used in SP4 Version of 2005 or later like 2008 R2 Version this cleanup task duty would be 'perfected'.

Unfortunately, on 2008 R2 version it is the same SCENARIO as clean up task will not perform properly on a daily basis.

Having said that, on some days it will CLEANUP old backups and on some days it won't. the reason is not evident from its log history and also from errorlogs verifications - no message yet.

I have even checked if there is any other SQL Agent job intervention; also any other off side / out of hours process is working during that time and also checked Tape backup procurement - as all are independent and independant on its time and have sufficient gap in between them.

I read in the past usage of SQL Maintenance Plans were not so efficient, but use the T-SQL Programs that are available in place of Maintenance Plans, but the organisation managament is only insisting on usage of Maintenance Plans only, which is irked me to funtion now.

As this is genuine problem, could anyone suggest on studying this problem and the measures need to take from here onwards and your suggestions were highly remarkable and appreciated.
