Running on Windows NT 4.0 service pack 6

Sql Server 7.0 service pack 1

I created a scheduled job that sends around 65 emails to our engineers internally. For a number of months the job ran very quickly, around a minute or so. 4 or 5 months ago the job began to run very slow, around a minute or so for each individual email message, resulting in the job taking around 70 minutes to complete.

Sql Server itself still runs very quickly. I ran the job in query analyzer to verify the speed of each email. It doesn't speed up if I get rid of the attachment or not. We use exchange server and I have Outlook 97 client on the Sql Server box.

When I test the profile name under SQL Mail it tests ok almost instantly. The same holds true when I test under SQL Server Agent.

I tried sending emails through MS Access with tables linked to SQL Server and the messages only took about 1 second per email so Exchange Server seems to be ok.

Any clue or any idea would be extremely appreciated. We are getting ready to send a mailing of around 3000 to our member clients and I really don't want to runt the job for 2 days straight.

Thanks
