| Hi allI just received two new dell 2u 2850 boxes to replace an older 4u 6600 machine and to setup as a cluster (hopefully). The spec of the old machine is as follows unfortunately explorer keeps crashing so i cannot get an exact spec but its roughly:- 4 x Xeon 1.4ghz 2mb cache HT (i think - cannot confirm)- 8GB RAM- 8 x 73gb SCSI drives 10k rpm- 2 x mirrored drives for operating system and tlog data- 6 x drives raid 10 for sql data (i think)the two new machines are both identical spec:- 2 x Xeon 3ghz 2mb cache HT- 8GB RAM- 6 x 146gb 15k rpm drivesid like to setup a failover cluster for sql server and get the best possible performance from the new machines. Will i see a performance hit compared to the old box as there are less CPUs per machine? I have read up on failover clustering and am happy to go ahead and configure this, but have also been told about third party tools that do this. Any advice on failover clustering and raid setup will be most useful. |
