I install MSDE after installing Visual Studio.NET seperately.

Now when i use SQL Server 7.0 and do not install MSDE i am able to run ASP.NET pages and access data through it.

Please tell me what the problem is.

How are you trying to connect? Post the code.

Can you connect from that machine using OSQL or some other tool?

You probably need to add an alias to the client machine. Is this all on one machine?
