Maybe....

IF you have an server admin userid, you can reset SA password just like any other userid.

Why do you need it? You should try and never use SA - I've heard of people who install a server, create a server admin userid, then gets a manager to change the SA password to something only they know), and the manager then locks the SA password away in a safe.

We have a password that looks something like this:

ajsdflj!#@$!ADKF!Q*@#$JFAFjqljrq-1743jfwqQwk$&*!#$UAFfasjdld;jf[p

I couldn't swear to it though. Ya know...we just don't ever use it. Chances of someone guessing it are pretty slim.

You "literally" never use it? Or you have it written on a piece of paper in a safe somewhere?

Just curious

It's stored in a directory that two people in the whole company can get to. And we never use it unless we're changing it. If we do ever have to use it it's VERY painful. Of course, we've made exceptions. Now we have the proper accounts in place though, so we never use it.

You would not believe how many Open SA Applications I have come across.

Which Sounds Like Massive stupidity to me.

My usual response is “Let me teach you a new word SECURITY”.

JimL,

I sure agree with you. There is NO reason for any application to be even SA "passworded", and we won't even talk about the SA-Blank concept

is your problem not being able to login with sysadmin privileges or simply you want to retrieve the sa password?
