We're currently running SQL7 on a Compaq server with 2 400mhz processors and 1 gig ram. The hard disks are raid 5. Performance has not been a problem to date although I've subjectively noticed things slowing down a bit during peak times. The big isssue is that the disk capacity is getting full and will be a big problem in the next 6 months.

My initial thought is to just add some more internal disks to solve the issue but I want to take a look at overall performance before I figure out how much money to ask for from my boss.

Are there some good benchmarks in perfmon that will clue me in to whether the processors are getting maxed out?

Also, is there a good and recommened way to move the database backups to another machine on the network? If I could get them off the production box, I would have less of a disk space issue.

Thanks
