| Should I be doing this? How secure is the password? I've never felt comfortable backing up my databases anywhere off the server (shared tape backup from hosting company), but maybe this would ease my worries. Thanks for any tips! mike123 |

| We don't use passwords for backups, either. We do, however, keep a backup in an off-site location as part of our disaster recovery plan.HTH=================================================================Some mistakes are too much fun to only make once. |

i've read somewhere here at sqlteam a guy asking the security of backup files and realized no matter where the files are saved, someone will hack into these filesthough from what i read from BOL, the password option for backups may not be too secure, IMHO it represents a certain level of security especially over the network. Read BOL and you'll be able to gauge if you really need to apply a passwordi know i will --------------------keeping it simple... |

| I go back to Jims ground rule of security. If they can't get at it they cant hack it. It all starts with network security and a good firewall.JimUsers <> Logic |
