I did a search and couldn't find a tread on this question.During a DTS , I accidentally deleted some existing tables/data.I do not have a backup . Is it possible to recover this lost data .By the way , this db has the simple Recovery Model

I have never used it, but you would'nt by chance be storing your packages in Meta Data Services. Otherwise, sorry.Sean RoussyPlease backup all of your databases including master, msdb and model on a regular basis. I am tired of telling people they are screwed. The job you save may be your own.I am available for consulting work. Just email me through the forum.

The problem here is about - certain deleted records . I appreciate your point about backups - but my specific question is:if you have deleted records and you haven't got a backup , then is it possible to recover for the existing log file ?This problem is just as relevant if there was a backup, but the deletes happened after the backup

| simple recovery only holds stuff in the log until it written to the db if I am not mistaken. The backups stuff is in my signature.Sean RoussyPlease backup all of your databases including master, msdb and model on a regular basis. I am tired of telling people they are screwed. | With Simple Recovery model the db can be recovered to the point of the last backup. You cannot restore the db to the point of failure or to a specific point in time. To do that, you need to choose Full Recovery or Bulk-Logged Recovery model.Even Log Explorer from Lumigent (http://www.lumigent.com/) can't recover if the db is in simply recovery model.Franco |

I just do not see the correlation. I never made any point about the ability to restore a database from backup in simple recovery. This ought to be obvious. My point was he was hoping to read from the log but the log entries do not hang out very long when you are in simple recovery. mac, maybe you ought to alter your signature so the style doesn't look like your post. There have been many misunderstandings because of it.jackv, you are hosed. The very first thing you should do as a DBA is to ensure that you are getting backups and that you can actually recover your databases. Also, think about implementing a test environment that is totally separate from your production environment. Hopefully this is not an important system. If it is, well i guess you ought to polish up your resume as best as you can. -ec
