Hi;
In http://www.sqlteam.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=71679 topic, it is stated that SQL-DMO can be used to make msde publisher for transactional replication.
But in http://www.sqlteam.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=71983 topic, Rishi said that "No Express Edition cant act as Publisher".
I am not clear about the difference btw msde and express.
Why msde can be publisher for transactional replication by SQL-DMO and why express edition can not be?
Thank you so much...

Its because in MSDE we used to have SQL Server Agent Service, through which you can create jobs for Replication agents but unfortunately in Express Edition we do not have SQL Agent at all, so there can be no jobs that can act as Replication Agents.

I am not sure as to why SQL Agent Service is removed from SQL Express Edition :-(

Thanks

Please note I have just made a modification for http://www.sqlteam.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=71679

The modification is that infact MSDE can't act as Publisher for Transactional but can for Merge and Snapshot.

But still your confusion earlier between MSDE and Express is answered in my previous post of un-availability of SQL Agent Services in Express Edition.

I hope that at this point all your doubts are cleared ...if not please let us know.

Thanks
