| I have an environment of SQL Server 2K5 and 2000 servers. The environment is mostly data warehouse than transactional. There are some applications working continiously to provid reports. The servers must be up and running. I have to provide high availability, monitor performance, and minimize down time. Is there any "really good" tool for a DBA for this environment? I would like to hear your experience with the tool you are using. Any practical suggestion is highly appreciated. | I tend to write monitoring queries depending on the system I want to monitor. I have a .net app which I use to display the info which is configurable from a table.==========================================Cursors are useful if you don't know sql.DTS can be used in a similar way.Beer is not cold and it isn't fizzy. |

| In my previous life we used Mercury's system monitoring tools. Pricy but works great.Otherwise I guess, you will have to create Alerts and take it from there. |
