i just installed the SQL 2005 Standard just for reviewing before installing enterprise edition on a server...with cluster.

I noticed you get path 90 and mssql.1, mssql.2, mssql.3
1...for SQL
2...for analysis olpa
3..sql reporting.

And it all goes on one server and Configures IIS.
Is it advisable to have all these servicess running on one server especially the IIS SQL Reporting and Analysis...

If i have 10 developers all doing net and cubes they could be overloading the entire Server

If anyone has this configured where all three services analysis, sql reporting working ...i like to your configuration settings .....do you have all these on one Server

is it advisable? probably not. I think there is a licensing issue though if you don't run them all on the same box.

Personally, we have dedicated machine for the database, reporting services, analysis services, etc.

No, I doubt very much that that was what EC meant.

In a production environment I would expect (in general terms) to have a single "server application" on one server box.

Meaning having SQL 2005 on one server...having Analysis Services on server b and reporting on server c ...
or all three on one box...

On the CD install i did not see any place you can do this...

Im not sure if im on the right architecture setup.

Should i be install all three services on one box....or separate......if i have all our developers doing this on one box it could be very cpu tacking.

Thanks

we have a single machine dedicated to SQL Server (actually a cluster), we have another server for reporting services, a third box for analysis, etc.

putting the different components of SQL Server on separate machines is what I would recommend you do as well. I would do this for performance reasons, for security reasons, for ease of troubleshooting, for simplicity of configuration, etc. However, there is a licensing issue when you do it this way. instead of having one license, you now need three server licenses (in my example above).

Thanks very much i just wanted to make sure that some one has done it with 2005 ...that theory is what im thinking is definately better than all three running on one server....keep them separate...

So you have SQL 2005 Clustered...with Analysis on SERVER1, REPORTING ON SERVER2 and SQL Server on SERVER3.
Wow thats interesting with the licence ......
If its not too much trouble and i know if you cannot ....do you have any screen shots of the cluster you have..
I have SQL 2000 Clustered so i just like to see all these three services clustered on three servers...

Thank you

just to clarify, we don't have AS or RS clustered. We just have our SQL Server instances clustered. the RS and AS environments run on separate servers completely.
