we're currently trying to clean up our db, weve come across a table which has 19 million records, this table is used for reports, the reports are random and can one day need items upto two years old from this table and at times items from 2 months ago...

the problem is this table is huge and it is taking a while for records to go through it, what is the best solution?

Check BOL for topic "Table Partition"

If table partition is not an option..

19 million is not huge...Make sure you have right indexes...
Create a clustered index on Date column...
