Good Morning All, I had SQL Server Express installed for a few months now just for testing and learning without any problems. Yesterday, I found this learning video and decided to install “SQL Server Reporting Services" as shown in this lesson 10 video. http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/sql/learning/default.aspxWhen I was trying to install Reporting Services along with, something called Web Components and Backward compatibility were not being installed. So I decided to go to my control panel and uninstall everything for SQL server 2005 and then reinstall it.This worked and Reporting Services Configuration was installed, but I cannot find the "Management Studio Express" feature in the ALL Programs area. Whenever I try to reinstall it again the install does not go through and I get a message saying. quote: TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server SetupNone of the selected features can be installed or upgraded. Setup cannot proceed since no effective change is being made to the machine. To continue, click Back and then select features to install. To exit SQL Server Setup, click Cancel.

| There is what i did.....I did a system restore before i installed the Reporting Services. This solved my initially problem (Putting back Management Studio Express) but introduced another issue. Anytime I clicked on the "New Query" button i get the following message saying..... "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Tools\Binn\VSShell\Common7\IDE\SsmseeTemplates\Sql\sqlfile.sql" is missing. To solve the problem i just put a blank text file called SQLfile.txt in the above folder and changed the extension to .sql i.e SQLFile.sql. So now i am back in businesses with Management Studio Express. Well I have to start all over again and now install the Reporting Services and hope all goes well. Thanks to all who responded. Dallr |
