| For more than three years, I program ASP.NET with SQL server and Crystal report. It works fine.Do I need to use report service? What benefit will get if I use reports service? |

| Well if you already have a licenced version of SQL Server I believe Reporting Services comes with it (for free).. I think..Even if it doesnt, I would recommend that you download Reporting Services, pick some of the toughest reports you have (in terms of complexity) and see if you can create the equivalent RS report. I worked for a company where the company decided to go with RS (for the same purpose= money) and we ended up converting hundreds of CR reports to RS and it was a pain. CR is a full fledged enterprise solution. RS hasnt yet reached there, in my opinion. but if your reports are simple, it might be worth moving to RS, to save the money.Dinakar Nethi************************Life is short. | small sidepoint, drilldown in RS is crappy. Run it in Dev environment and it's fine. Run it on a web page and the screen will refresh each time you click a drilldown plus sign |
