Hi All,

I have a requirement of migrating all databases from one server to another. I need to backup all SQL Server 2005 databases (both SQL and AS) with the exact replica copy. Also I need to migrate all the SSIS packages. Unfortunately I am not a Database/System Admin.

Is there any Script/Tool/Wizard Functionality that would help me doing this? I would be happy, even if you can help me reducing the parts of manual work in anyway you can think of, so please pour you thoughts in.

Thanking in Anticipation,

Jasraja

Well, this doesn't answer your question, as such, but it considers the steps to go through in migrating to a new sever, so may give you some ideas or prevent you falling into some potholes!

If you are LITERALLY moving everything to a new server you can:

Install SQL on new server
(Make 100% sure that the installation is identical INCLUDING Drive\Path for system databases, and Service Pack)
Stop SQL Service on BOTH the Old and New servers
Take copies of the System Database files on New Server - "Just in case"!!
Copy all the System AND User database files (MDF & LDF - and maybe NDF) from Old to New server
Restart SQL Server Service on the New box
(If necessary "Move" the database files to different/better physical/logical locations)

(So in effect you will have overwritten the System databases on the new Server with those from the Old Server)
