I'm not able to find sp_start_job under system stored procedures in msdb. If I just run sp_start_job I get execute permission denied. If I run
sp_helptext sp_start_job
I get the below error
The object 'sp_start_job' does not exist in database 'msdb' or is invalid for this operation

I am not sure, what is missing, permission or the system procedure itself is not there?

Thanks
Karunakaran

usually system stored procedures in the master database..... search there for it.

if not look in the database where it should be running on.

Sorry for not posting more clearly.

I got the errors in the first post of this thread, when I was trying to execute from msdb.

Thanks

I saw what you posted, but sp_start_job is in the msdb database. If it isn't there, you have an error.

I don't suppose you actually ran my code did you?

You are right, I did not run, when I posted the earlier reply. Because I believe that USE msdb and selecting the database in the SSMS are equivalent.

I did ran it now, and got the same error. Below is the exact error I got.
quote:

Msg 15009, Level 16, State 1, Procedure sp_helptext, Line 54
The object 'sp_start_job' does not exist in database 'msdb' or is invalid for this operation.

It looks like either my sql installation is wrong, something was not installed.

Thanks

Maybe the procedure was dropped or renamed.

What version and edition of SQL Server are you running?

Well, since I see a bunch of other system stored procedures, I did not think this proc might be dropped or renamed. I have to check with DBA.

I guess public, need to find out from DBA.
In the Security\Logins node under my see only one database selected. The master, msdb, temp all are unchecked for the MAP column.
