No, named instance will use dynamic port number by default.

You can get this information programmatically from the registry by using xp_regread.

Here is where to get it for SQL Server 2000 default instance (it changes a little for named instance and I believe even for 2005):

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSSQLServer\MSSQLServer\SuperSocketNetLib\Tcp

am trying to use xp_regread , i have found this sysntax
EXECUTE master..xp_regread [@rootkey=]'rootkey',
[@key=]'key'
[, [@value_name=]'value_name']
[, [@value=]@value OUTPUT]

but am not familiar with registery and i don know nothing about the proc inputs @rootkey,@key,@value_name
could u please explain them and if u can with example.

Then just look at sql server configuration manager or sql server log.

There are plenty of examples of xp_regread if you just googled it.
