I installed SQL 7.0 OLAP Services for the first time. The inital install went off without a hitch. I then tried to apply SP3 and got an error at 4%.quote: Cannot continue setup. File is probably in use by another program. Close all programs and run setup again.
Notice that no file is listed. Nice touch I thought. Anyway, I tried shuting down non vital program and service I could find, including all virus software. Still got the same error. I just uninstalled the OLAP Services thinking it might help to start from scratch. Now I get the error when trying to install OLAP from the SQL 7 CD! Can anyone shed any light on my problems? The server is Win2K SP2 and there is a lot of software on it that I think may be the cause of my headaches like Office XP.Jeff BanschbachConsultant, MCDBA |

Solved!Turns out the OLAP service was not letting go of the main executable (msmdsrv.exe) when it was stoped on this particular server. In order to get around this I set the SQL Server and OLAP Services to manual startup mode and rebooted the machine. This cleared the file lock and I was able to apply the service pack. I figured this out by attempting an uninstall. The uninstall showed that it was unable to delete the msmdsrv.exe and two dll's that were in use by the exe.Jeff BanschbachConsultant, MCDBA |
