In SQL Server 2005. I am trying to figure out why I cannot ad a step when I am trying to create a job. I am able to create a job but it won't let me add any steps to that job. I am even configured as an administrator on the server and still have problems with this. Does anyone know how I can get around this? Thanks in Advance,

Try installing service pack 2 plus the 3 security patches onto your client machine. SQL service packs and patches contain bug fixes for the client and server.Tara KizerMicrosoft MVP for Windows Server System - SQL Serverhttp://weblogs.sqlteam.com/tarad/

Would that work if someone else has access to it and we both got our computers configured for it the same day with all of the same utilities?

Yes. But you should go back and install it on each of the machines that either has the SQL Server database engine installed or the SQL Server client utilities.Tara KizerMicrosoft MVP for Windows Server System - SQL Serverhttp://weblogs.sqlteam.com/tarad/

There are two of us who need to use this. The other person's works fine. We are both sysadmins on the sql server. I'm starting to think that it is more work policy restrictions because when he logs my computer on the nework as an admin I can do everything fine. I can even do it when I log in right away with my own user name and password. However, when I log back in the next day it doesn't work. That makes me feel that it is a group policy issue. Group policies update about every 20 minutes depending on what it is setup as. So if I log in right after I'm still within my 20 min. window. I guess I am figuring out my own question but I didn't know if anyone else had experience with this. Too bad I'm not always an admin of the network.

you should ask for sysadmin privilege if this is part of your dutiesand make sure you keep it until you resign or you get re-assignedI get a bit frustrated with network disconnections which tends to make life more difficult as a DBA but yours is a bit overboard--------------------keeping it simple...
