| Hi,At present there is no windows server machine in the company.I would like to install sql server 2005 standard edition on a windows xp pro machine.1)Can this sql server 2005 standard edition on xp pro be our main central sql server 2005 which holds all databases and instances in the company where other machines can connect to?2)The idea is that in the future when the windows server machine has arrived, I will then install sql server 2005 edition on that windows server machine and move the existing databases from the the current central xp pro machine to it.3)IS it best to instal standard edition on windows server only? Thanks |

| 1. yes2. ok3. Yes, it would be best to put sql on a server OSDesktop OSes are tuned for running desktop apps. Server OSes are designed to run server class apps like SQL Server. For a small system this might be an ok solution, but you will be better off with running SQL on a server OS.The most important thing will be backups. Don't make the mistake of not implementing backups and make sure to test them regularly.-ec |
