Any changes in security and/or permissions?
Any files missing?

What does the log contain for information about not starting?

Not getting anything in logs that i can go by.
I just reinstalled sql 2005 as another instance that works just fine.

Would there be a corrupt file in the bin i can replace....sqlagent.dll was in sql 2000

The SQL Server (ASRCFHSQL2005_2) service failed to start due to the following error:
The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.

Thanks

Timeout (30000 milliseconds) waiting for the SQL Server (ASRCFHSQL2005_2) service to connect.
Anyway to increase timeout perhaps.

I fixed it
C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\LOG Open up the log had something to do with
The SQL Server failed to initialize VIA support library [QLVipl.dll].
This normally indicates the VIA support library does not exist or is corrupted.
Please repair or disable the VIA network protocol. Error: 0x7e.

So disabled the via and it worked....

VIA protocol works with specific Virtual Interface Adapter only, shouldn't enable it without such hardware.
