| Is it windows or sql account? Did you connect to source sql server with that account? |

| It works if it is SQL 2005 to SQL 2005 but when its SQL 2005 to SQL 2000SQL account both same on each machine brand new logins setup and passwords. |

| i had the same problem last week.i fixed by setting up windows a/c and sql a/c exact in linked server.Security: Put yout windows a/c and remote login and password(sql a/c). |

| OMG - thanks for the solution - it works here on my machine as well. I did not set up a linked server - I just connect directly.Solution: If you're using Windows auth., and login is Administrator and password is 123 on your server, just change your local password for the Administrator-account to 123. Then connect to remote server, while logged in as Administrator on your local pc. And you will be fine.I think this is a bug in Windows Vista with the Stored Usernames and Passwords. |

| For domain account, only thing you need to do is adding that account as sql login in sql server. |
