Hai,I'm using SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition in my windows XP SP2 machine. I have only 1 server to which my 4 client machines are connected. Whenever I'm connecting to my SSMS using my domain account I get an error message indicating ' Login failed for user 'domain name\account name'.(Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 18456).I have tried with Microsoft's KB Article ID: 889646 and all other kind of stuffs. It's not helping me to sort out this problem. Could anyone help me outta here.Narayanamoorthy

So when you log onto your XP2 machine, can you create objects with your domain account username?

Do you use windows or sql authentication? Sql authentication doesn't work with 'domain name\account name' while windows authentication doesn't need 'domain name\account name'. And ensure you added 'domain name\account name' as sql login in sql server.

Ok, i'll re-phrase my question. If you log in to the Server with the same account you use for your XP SP2 machine, can you connect ok and create objects?

Ok, do you have the admin account for the server? It would seem that the account you are using is not the admin account, so it could be that you haven't set this account up with access correctly. Please log in using a sa level account and check your security settings.
