I cannot get replication to install on an exsisting instance. SQL 2005 workgroup edition. it is at sp2, and it tells me that a more current version already exists. |

What do you mean you cannot install it? What are you trying to do when you get the error? And what is the exact error?Dave Dunckley says there is a law for the rich and a law for the poor and a law for Dirty Davey. |

I installed SQL2005 Workgroup edition on a Windows xp 32bit box. Later on I wanted to add replication, I wnet in to setup and tried to installed it, vix support & books online, and it does not work. You must reinstall to add replication to a previously installed instance.Replication is an option to be installed in sql 2005. |

I'm having this same issue when attempting to install Replication components to an existing clustered node of SQL 2005 Enterprise Ed. 64-bit. I've not see any resolution on this topic. Can someone post a solution? I attempt to do this by modifying an existing install thru add/remove programs but since Replication is a subcomponent of DB services it will not let me, stating that the components already exist for the instance.Timothy Ford, MCSD, MCPSenior Database AdministratorSpectrum HealthOwnerFord-IT Consulting ServicesAuthorSQL Server CentralMSSQLTips.comSimple-Talk.comProgram Committe, SIG Committee, Editorial CommitteeProfessional Association for SQL Server (PASS)LeaderWest Michigan SQL Server User Group (WMSSUG.org) |

Ray, when trying to configure distribution get 21028:Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio is unable to access replication components because replication is not installed on this instance of SQL Server.Timothy Ford, MCSD, MCPSenior Database AdministratorSpectrum HealthOwnerFord-IT Consulting ServicesAuthorSQL Server CentralMSSQLTips.comSimple-Talk.comProgram Committe, SIG Committee, Editorial CommitteeProfessional Association for SQL Server (PASS)LeaderWest Michigan SQL Server User Group (WMSSUG.org) |

Have already done the following:1. Control Panel/Add Remove Programs/Microsoft SQL Server/Change ... (failed, components already installed...)2. Command line install to add replication to instance: start /wait c:\...\setup.exe /qb VS=<VirtServer> INSTANCENAME=<InstanceName> ADDLOCAL=SQL_Replication (failed as well)Timothy Ford, MCSD, MCPSenior Database AdministratorSpectrum HealthOwnerFord-IT Consulting ServicesAuthorSQL Server CentralMSSQLTips.comSimple-Talk.comProgram Committe, SIG Committee, Editorial CommitteeProfessional Association for SQL Server (PASS)LeaderWest Michigan SQL Server User Group (WMSSUG.org) |

In this case, I'll try remove replication first then add it back in. |

Ray, it will not allow me to uninstall b/c it is not currently installed. If I try to install replication it will not let me b/c it is tied to the DB services and since it sees DB services as already being installed and at SP2 it will not allow adding replication as a subcomponent of DB services.http://www.ford-it.com/Images.htmTimothy Ford, MCSD, MCPSenior Database AdministratorSpectrum HealthOwnerFord-IT Consulting ServicesAuthorSQL Server CentralMSSQLTips.comSimple-Talk.comProgram Committe, SIG Committee, Editorial CommitteeProfessional Association for SQL Server (PASS)LeaderWest Michigan SQL Server User Group (WMSSUG.org) |

I experienced this too and was advised to uninstall the whole SQL Server application and reinstall, but this time choosing the advanced option where you choose to install replication. This worked. |

Hi,We have successfully fixed same issue on our Production Environment. Here is the command line parameter fix for adding replication/other components on cluster environment. *******************************************************************C:\Software\SQL 2005 STD\Standard_x86\Servers>start /wait setup.exe /qb VS=SQL1 INSTANCENAME=SQL1 ADDNODE="xxxx1,xxxx2" GROUP="GROUP 0" IP="xxx.xx.xxx.xxx,Public" ADDLOCAL=SQL_Replication ADMINPASSWORD=xxxxx INSTALLSQLDIR="C:\ Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Binn" ******************************************************************* Post installation Check - Check the registry key ‘HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\Replication\IsInstalled’ for the value 1 post installation. Once the above command completes successfully, replication components automatically gets upgraded to SP2/SP3. It automatically applies SP2/SP3 on the replication components if installed by the above method. Default location for the replication components. You could check the version of the replication dlls at the location below: “C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\COM”Senthilkumar Senior SQL Server DBAIndia |
