| Hi Alli am bit confused about how data and log files grow in databases. suppose i turn off the auto grow and restrict the maxsize upto some limit but size of data/log file is less then maxsize at some stage because what i understand is size of data/log file keep changing depends upon the activities going on the database. in future if data/log file need to grow can it grow upto the maxsize without turing on the auto grow. regards |

| Yes, you have to extend file size manually before reaching max size. |

| Thnaks for your reply. can you please give me some tips as well. what is recommended to turn off the auto grow and manually increase the limit or turn on the auto grow. |

| It depends on ur application and requirement.Better turn on the auto grow as it will automatically allocate space for the datas.RKNAIR |

| If you want to do it manually, have to monitor space used all the time and extend file once free space is below certain level (say 10%). |
