My database is being moved from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005. Is there a way to copy a User from the old database to the new one, call it a different name and let it have all the same rights as the old one.

Get this procedure sp_help_revlogin and put in master on your SQL 2000 then run it it produces a list of logins, then on SQL 2005 just run it creates all logins for you.Not sure if you can rename the login you have to try doing it with the script.

Db users are moved with db, you can remap them to sql logins on sql2k5 with sp_chage_users_login.
