Will be meeting with a Vendor tomorrrow ... I am installing a new 64 bit 2005 Enterprise Instance for their product but they havent' given any documentation yet.. this is what I've come up with so far...Does the Application need a Named Instance or will a Default Instance suffice? (if Named, is there a preferred name?)Type of account needed to connect to the Database from the Application? (SQL or NT Authenticated) Type of Permissions needed to the Database with the connect account? Preferred Recovery Model? Standard for most of ourSQL Server Databases is Full Recovery with Daily Full Backups and Frequent TLOG backupsAre users authenticated at the Application or will each user need SQL Server credentials? Approximate size of the Database(s) What else would I need to ask??????????????

Ask for the products Installation Guide that explains how SQL Server should be setup for this application. It should have answers for all the questions you already posted. That is usually your single best clue about how much they know about SQL Server and how much trouble the product is going to be. If they don't have one, they probably have no idea what they are doing.CODO ERGO SUM

Thanksw for all the feedback. As usual, getting pulled in last minute .. Hopefully they will have a products installation guide but if I haven't seen one yet.. not a good sign.. more concerned about their app playing well with a 64bit backend and cliemt connections..

I would also ask if they are willing to share an ERD and Data Dictionary. I am finding that in many companies that I work with the standard reporting that is offered with the tool is not useful, leaving you to create your own reports.I would ask for detailed SQL Config, recommendations. A friend of mine just had a vendor tell them to add another 24 gig of memory to their server to support a 200 meg database.Chris Shawwww.SQLonCall.com
