Hello all. I'm new to SQL Administration and this looks like a great forum!

I currently have a SQL server on which someone has enabled log shipping. There is no secondary DB server. My guess is that they simply didn't know how to create a regular trans log backup job and they thought that Log Shipping was the answer.

If I were to ever need to restore this DB, could I use the trans logs that are currently being generated by the Log Shipping job just as I would had a regular backup job been created or is there a difference between the two types of logs. I'm just wondering if I need to disable the log shipping job and create a regular trans log backup job since we do not have any secondary servers for this DB.

Thanks!

If there is no Secondary Server then, Why you need Log shipping ?
For Disaster Recovery, If you have Full backup and Tran log in place then you should no problem.

Yes you can use the backups that are created by the log shipping maintenance plan. They are normal full and tlog backups.

The secondary server existed at some point though as you never would have been able to set it up without it.

You should clear out log shipping though.
