 how long should we keep archive files?

Is there any regulation or law specify how long to keep archived data? 5 years?
or where can i find those info? Thank you

There's no way for us to answer this for them. It is completely up to them.

The contracts that we have with our customers state that we can retain only 2 days of backups. But I've heard of other companies keeping 7 years or even all of them on tape. Our circumstance is special due to the data that we are storing and possible litigation.

Your employer needs to decide this answer.

Every business is different. Some types require three years, some five, some forever. Honestly, you're employer should know thier own retention requirements.

Depends. Financial firms have to follow regulation by law, for instance.

That's what we've been stating. Every business is different and has different requirements. The business owners really should have an idea what thier requirements are...
