Hi All,

I am trying to set up database mirroring and in the initial phase of database restoring im getting some problem.

the scenario is .

1- I create a TestMirror on server1(which will be principal server) and backup full and transaction logs.

2- create TestMirror in server 2( Which is going to be used as mirror) .

3- restore the full backup of "TestMirror" from Principle Sever with NORECOVERY option.

this step results in a message box showing that the restore was successfull...

but the database explorer( management studio) shows the TestMirror in (restoring ...) state. and no more operations can be performed with this Database. ( because the database is in restoring mode).. please help what this issue is?

Thanks In Advance for any suggestions

How come TempDB is in restoring mode? Did you restore transaction log in Mirror server in Norecovery mode also? Explain clearly what you did and which databases you are talking about?

That is how Mirroring Works? You can't access Mirror server unless you create database snapshot. It will be in Norecovery mode. Did you check the stastus of mirror with Launch Database mirroring monitor?

Nope!! Still it is in restoring ... Mode. When I Press the start mirroring button i am getting the following error.

Alter Failed database mirror (Microsoft.SQLserver.Smo)
An Exception occured while executing a Transact-SQl statement or batch. (Microsoft.SQlserver.ConnectonInfo)
The Server Network address "TCP://D2v63rc1.candb.com:5022" cannot be reached or doesnot exists. Check the network address name and that ports for the local and remote endpoints are operational.( Microsoft Sql server, Error:1418)

Can you give us step by step how you configure mirroring so we can help you? Is your domain account has same rights in both servers?

This will help you too:

You must restore all of the transaction logs since the full backup that you used (using with norecovery option) in order to start database mirroring. According to your first post, you've only restored the full backup so far.

This is why I always disable my tlog backup job while I am setting up database mirroring, so that I only have one transaction log to apply to the secondary server.
