That field means "Indicates whether this 32-bit service is running on a 64 bit OS". Your field should be grayed out and say No.Tara KizerMicrosoft MVP for Windows Server System - SQL Serverhttp://weblogs.sqlteam.com/tarad/Database maintenance routines:http://weblogs.sqlteam.com/tarad/archive/2004/07/02/1705.aspx

I can change it to Yes too, but it should be set to No. When I said grayed out, I meant the field name. There are a bunch in a lighter color.Tara KizerMicrosoft MVP for Windows Server System - SQL Serverhttp://weblogs.sqlteam.com/tarad/Database maintenance routines:http://weblogs.sqlteam.com/tarad/archive/2004/07/02/1705.aspx

Why would you be concerned about it if it's set correctly?Tara KizerMicrosoft MVP for Windows Server System - SQL Serverhttp://weblogs.sqlteam.com/tarad/Database maintenance routines:http://weblogs.sqlteam.com/tarad/archive/2004/07/02/1705.aspx

I think they are worried since they installed 64bit Windows and 64bit SQL.

The setting is correct because it isn't a 32-bit service. It is a 64-bit service. The setting would probably say Yes if you installed 32-bit SQL Server on x64 platform.Tara KizerMicrosoft MVP for Windows Server System - SQL Serverhttp://weblogs.sqlteam.com/tarad/Database maintenance routines:http://weblogs.sqlteam.com/tarad/archive/2004/07/02/1705.aspx

This does not sound like something I need to be so concerned about, but this is really confusing. Also, I realize that this is a SQL Server 2005 thread, but I think this also applies to SQL Server 2008 R2.I am running a 64-bit OS and a 64-bit SQL Server. Here is the info:SELECT @@VERSIONMicrosoft SQL Server 2008 R2 (RTM) - 10.50.1600.1 (X64) Apr 2 2010 15:48:46 Copyright (c) Microsoft Corporation Standard Edition (64-bit) on Windows NT 6.1 <X64> (Build 7600: ) (Hypervisor) But in SQL Server Configuration Manager, when I look at the properties of a SQL Server instance on the advanceed tab, it says NO for "running under 64 bit OS". WHY?Shouldn't this be YES since the service is running under a 64-bit OS? If the value is NO, then does that mean that it is running under a 32-bit OS? What does this all mean? Thanks. |
