Hello, I have SQL Server 2005 64 bit on Windows Server 2003 Enterprise 64 bit on a server with 8GB of RAM

Task Manager reports the process sqlserver.exe consuming 7GB of memory

Is this normal ?

It depends. Have you checked the memory counters in Performance Monitor? How big is your database?

Target Server Memory (KB) : 7021800 (keeps counting)
Total Server Memory (KB) : 6915584 (fixed)
Buffer cache hit ratio : 99.867
Page life expectancy : 125353

How much memory the SQL Server is dependant on the size of the dbs, queries etc. If there are resources free Windows will attempt to reclaim memory , using the Min Memory setting as the guideline

Looks like you need more memory on this system as the Target value is higher than the Total value.
