Hi -
I would like to try and track users accessing our SQL 2005 server and the queries that they are running (mostly connecting via apps that call stored procs...but there is some native sql too).

My initial thought was that I would have to use Profiler and set it up to run every at regular intervals and then dump it into some sort of table and then view the data to determine users and queries, etc.

Is this the best approach? What I am trying to determine now, and also going forward, is the amount of usage that our SQL server is getting and when there are peaks and valleys of usage during the week, etc.

Thanks,
- will

Use this to schedule the script and load to table in Offline hours so you can analyze everything. It will also point when to stop once you schedule.

Also for login audit, you can enable failed and successful login in security properties
