Hi,We had a problem with our server-we aren't sure what but unfortunately a certain sql server instance is no longer available. We want to try and restore it but we aren't sure how to go about that. Can someone please help and explain to me how to do that?ThanksWhisky-my beloved dog who died suddenly on the 29/06/06-I miss u so much.

Hi,When i try to connect to that instance I get the error below.I am trying to connect to that instance from inside the server. Also, if I connect to Analysis Service under that instance then it works. I think the instance might have been deleted by error?TITLE: Connect to Server------------------------------Cannot connect to BS-SERVER\SQL_2005.------------------------------ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 10061)------------------------------ Whisky-my beloved dog who died suddenly on the 29/06/06-I miss u so much. |

Just because you get that error doesn't mean someone uninstalled it. Check the Services applet to see if the SQL Server service is there. If it is, is it in a started state? If it isn't, try starting it? Does it error on start?Tara KizerMicrosoft MVP for Windows Server System - SQL Serverhttp://weblogs.sqlteam.com/tarad/Subscribe to my blog

Hi Thanks the service was stopped. However, I also can't connect to another server called bs-server (without an instance). I couldn't find that in the services. I get the same error as above. Any ideas what I can do?ThanksWhisky-my beloved dog who died suddenly on the 29/06/06-I miss u so much.

It existed. If someone uninstalled it then it won't be in the services correct? Is there a way to restore it? Could it be somewhere on the disk/server?Whisky-my beloved dog who died suddenly on the 29/06/06-I miss u so much.
