Is it possible in SQL2K5,
1. to give a upper limit to DB files and (I know this is possible)
2. raise an alert or some notification when 80% (or something similar) of file is filled.

I will look BOL for point 2. Mean while if you have some quick info please let me know. I don't need the code. I just need to know what needs to be done.

There is "percent log used" property for ALERT, but not "percent data file used".

You may use sp_spaceused to get info you need.

Let me clarify,

I have a db with size 100MB
The max size for the DB is 1GB
I want an alert when the DB size reaches 800MB

Yes, sp_spaceused tells you db size and used space.
