Upon inspecting my backups it appears that my MSDB database is surging over 400 megs (.mdf is 405mb and the .ldf is 1mb). Since this database is being backed up every 2 hours it is creating considerable overhead. In comparison the master and model are only a couple megabytes and the largest database on the server is under 92 megabytes.Auto-shink is not on, should it be? I haven't messed with any of the default settings so far as I can remember...Should I switch to the Full recovery model and begin doing transaction log backups? I'm a bit weary of changing system databases so your help is appreciated.BTW I am running SQL 2005.Thanks --------------------"dell never told me i'd get free fried nut sandwiches with my laptop" |

I think backup logs [http://www.dbarecovery.com/msdbtables.html] (and other logs such as job log [msdb..sysjobhistory] ) are stored in msdb database.Try to delete from a few of them.Tara has a few scripts on how to deal with them.http://weblogs.sqlteam.com/tarad/ E 12°55'05.25"N 56°04'39.16" |
