| This is my first post here, so go easy on me please. :-)I'm trying to use the SQL Server 2005 Performance Dashboard Reports (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=1D3A4A0D-7E0C-4730-8204-E419218C1EFC&displaylang=en).In the past, the only way I have ever gotten to reports is by using the Summary tab when I select an instance or a database in SSMS. It's the little green notebook. Now, when I read various resources about how to use these custom reports, they say that I should be able to right-click objects in the Object Explorer window and get a "Reports" option in the context menu:"right click on a database in SSMS, go to "Reports" item, then click on the "Custom Reports" item."- http://www.simple-talk.com/sql/sql-tools/custom-reports-in-management-studio,-using-the-performance-dashboard/"Right-click a node in Object Explorer, point to Reports, point to Custom Reports and select a custom report "- http://blogs.msdn.com/sqlrem/archive/2006/11/20/custom-reports-in-management-studio.aspxand so on.Trouble is, I dont' have that option in SSMS. If I right-click on an instance (when logged in as sa), I get the following:- Connect...- Disconnect- Register-------------------------- New Query-------------------------- Start- Stop- Pause- Resume - Restart-------------------------- Refresh- PropertiesIf I right-click a database, I get these options:- New Database...- New Query- Script Database as ->-------------------------- Tasks ->-------------------------- Rename- Delete-------------------------- Refresh- PropertiesAm I looking in the correct place? Can anyone think why I might not have the report option? When I go to help -> About, I have the following software versions:Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio 9.00.1399.00Microsoft Analysis Services Client Tools 2005.090.1399.00Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2000.085.1117.00 (xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158)Microsoft MSXML 2.6 3.0 4.0 5.0 6.0 Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0.5730.11Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0.50727.832Operating System 5.1.2600Thanks in advance for your help,Chris |

When I run this code:SELECT SERVERPROPERTY('productversion'), SERVERPROPERTY ('productlevel'), SERVERPROPERTY ('edition')I get this result set:9.00.3159.00 SP2 Enterprise EditionI installed the Performance Dashboard on the server, according to the directions I found here:http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=1d3a4a0d-7e0c-4730-8204-e419218c1efc&displaylang=en"Additional InformationThe SQL Server instance being monitored must be running SP2 or later. After completing the installation, you must:1. Run the Setup.sql file on each instance of SQL Server 2005 that you wish to monitor with the SQL Server 2005 Performance Dashboard Reports.2. Open the performance_dashboard_main.rdl file with the Custom Reports functionality new to Management Studio in Service Pack 2."I'm getting stuck at step 2, of course.I'll double check that I installed the .sql on the correct instance. |

| I don't have that menu option, but I don't have any custom reports.Have you created your own reports? I think that menu option may only be for YOUR OWN reports. This is from the first link:"You can even create your own reports and access them by right-clicking on the object you wish to investigate in the object browser pane " |

| "I don't have that menu option, but I don't have any custom reports.Have you created your own reports? I think that menu option may only be for YOUR OWN reports."That may be so. I haven't found any documentation that is explicit about this. In other words, nothing I have found says, "You won't have a 'Reports' menu option until you create some custom reports".Even so, it would seem that the customs reports in the Performance Dashboard would count somehow? According to the instructions, the .rdl files don't have to be a in a certain place to be recognized. I imagine one browses the filesystem for them?"There is no requirement that the report definition files or help file reside in a specific location. ... The first time you choose the Custom Report option you will be prompted to choose the report to run. Browse to this share and select the performance_dashboard_main.rdl report file. Future access to the dashboard can be done using the recent file list instead of manually browsing to the share."- From the PerfDash.chm file that comes with the dashboardSo my guess that the feature should be popping up for me now. I have also checked that I ran the setup.sql script against the correct instance.Thoughts? Thanks,Chris |

| You need to look under Help/About in Management studio to get the version of the tools installation. |

I'll try to find the newest version of SSMS I can get my hands on and see if that helps. I'll update this thread later today.- Chris |
