Hello

Please help me solve mirroring issue.
I have 2 servers on the same workgroup:
srv1.server.lan and srv2.server.lan with 10.0.0.2 and 10.0.0.3 ip
They can ping each other by FQDN (added that to hosts file). All ports are open.
I am trying to configure mirror.
srv1 is principle and srv2 mirror server.
I have backuped database and transaction logs on srv1 and restored to srv2 with NO
RECOVERY option. Database in srv2 now is with "in recovery" status.
Then i try to configure mirror on srv1.
Using port 5022 on both servers.
Service accounts for instances: leave empty.
Configuring endpoints finished with "Success" status.
But when i try to start mirroring i get this error:

Alter failed for Database 'database'. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo)
An exception occurred while executing a Transact-SQL statement or batch. (Microsoft.SqlServer.ConnectionInfo)
The server network address "TCP://srv2.server.lan:5022" can not be reached or does not exist. Check the network address name and that the ports for the local and remote endpoints are operational.

What can be wrong?

Thank you for help in advance

Aidas

You have gotten the (now infamous) catchall error message. this can mean just about anything. Some more information may be found in the errorlog of the two servers. Here are some things to check in the meantims:
1) Are the endpoints on both servers started?
2) Do the two SQL Server Services run as the same domain account, if you are using Windows Authentication for the endpoints? Or, if you are using certificates, are the respective logins mapped to those certificates?

I have found problem. Servers are in workgroup, so there are no domain accounts. I just created identical local account on both servers and started
SQL Server service with it. Mirror is working.
mcrowley thx for help

I got the same problem. When I'm pressing START MIRRORING I got this message:

"One or more of the server network addresses lacks a FQDN. Specify the FQDN for each server and click Start Mirroring"

Both servers are in separate locations with no active directory domain, I made changes in hosts file, both servers runs under the same accont with the same password, I can ping servers by host and IP number. Just mirroring doesn't want to start.

I was curious and done this on db2 server:

ALTER DATABASE [db] SET PARTNER = 'TCP://db2:5022'

and I got this:

The server network address "TCP://db2:5022" can not be reached or does not exist.
Check the network address name and that the ports for the local and remote endpoints are operational.

Anyone can help me with it?
