Sam writes "Hi,

Can I have both versions installed on one server (W2K Server)? I have clients still on 7 & some on 2000 so want to keep both versions going. Will version 7 get 'messed up'?

Thanks!
Sam"

This question has cropped up before a few times. I believe it can be done but is NOT recommended. There is just to much that can conflict between the two for it to be worth persuing this scenario.

There are no significant problems at all (and I can't think of many insignificant ones). However obviously the 2 instances will compete for server resource (CPU/MEM/IO etc) and this is why it is not recomended in a production environmet. The only caveat is that the SQL7 tools on the server will no longer function - you need to use the 2000 tools.

Jasper is right.

I have never heard of this as "NOT Recommended".
