Paul Caccia writes "The readme file on sql sp4 does not address windows 2000 services
only NT4 services(see below). What services do I stop for 2000 server? I had a big problem with services not starting the first time I ran this.

Thanks,

3.4 Stop Applications Before Running Service Pack 4 Setup
The following applies to all configurations except the database client-only configuration:

Before running Service Pack 4 Setup to apply Database Components SP4, shut down the following services and applications:

The Microsoft Search, MSDTC, MSSQLServer, MSSQLServerOLAPService, and SQLServerAgent services

Microsoft Transaction Server, Message Queuing, and Microsoft COMTI

All applications, including Control Panel
If you are installing in a Windows NT cluster, ensure these applications and services are stopped on all nodes in the cluster.

Also stop SQL Server Service Manager if it is running. Right-click the minimized SQL Server Service Manager icon on the right side of the taskbar, and then click Exit."
