it is SQL Agent is just a scheduler for SQL Server. It is what is being executed that may or may not affect the performance of your database.

Thanks for the mail. A sceduled scan of semantic antivirus some times run in the server which scan sql server agent process. I have found that at the time of scanning, sql server 2000 perfoermance degrades. Is it a fair cause? Please response asap cause I am in troubles with sql server performance. Thanks a lot.

Norton antivirus will attempt to consume 100% of available resources while scanning (disk / cpu). Schedule your scan to run during non peak hours.

Typically for me disk is the limiting factor. Sending disk activity to 100% while the scan runs will effectively half the performance on your other file activity (specifically tlogs)on that device.

If you have dedicated drives solely to Tlogs, I dont see a purpose in a scheduled scan of that drive.
