| After searching and getting confused, as usual, I came to the usual place where I get the best direction, as always! I do not know where this query should go, hence posting it here. My manager has asked me for a few reports on that can be viewed as pie charts, graphs, line charts etc... On a positive note, I can get the SQL queries come hell or high water. Now, which is the best way to convert the report data into graphs, pie charts? etc..After searching online, I guess I can use chart controls etc.. in either use ASP or VB to achieve this. I also found out there are dashboard reports in SQL Server 2005 SP2 but I need customized ones which can be displayed in Internet Explorer...Please advise! |

| Microsoft Reporting Services includes controls for producing graphs, pie charts, line charts, etc. A books by Brian Larson published by Osborne / McGraw Hill called "SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services" is a very good reference. It is also possible to produce a report on a web page without actually having Reporting Services installed on the server by running the ReportViewer control in Local Mode. Three .DLL's must be placed in the \bin folder of an ASP.NET site for local mode to work - Microsoft.ReportViewer Common.dll, ..ProcessingObjectModel.dll, and ..WebForms.dll. However, most shared hosting plans won't allow these .DLL's to execute. I got into hosting my own website to allow Local Mode to work. The alternative is dedicated hosting at an ISP. |
