When you see a number in the BlkBy column, eg. I saw 5 for a SELECT, and an 82 for an AUTOSHRINK; usually with just a dot in there - what does that mean?

Thanks

The BlkBy column shows the SPID of the connection that is blocking this row. You need to then check that SPID's last executed statement to try to identify what the issue is.

The dot is just a placeholder meaning that nothing is blocking it.

Note that short-term blocking is a normal occurrence, so don't stress about that unless it goes on for a while.
