I've been given the machine of a another (now departed) web developer. He had installed Sql Server while logged in as himself. At first, when I would login, I couldn't see the service status of or connect to SQL Server. I have just had the IS guys give me local Administration access to this machine.I can now see that SQL Server is stopped. I can't get it to start.I've gone into the control panel and tried fiddling with the login information for the server. Even going as far as setting the account to be my local account. When I did that and try to start the server, I get the message:SQL Server could not find the default instance (MSSQLSERVER) - please specify the name of an existing instance on the invocation of sqlservr.exe.If you believe that your installation is corrupt or has been tampered with, uninstall then re-reun setup to correct this problem.I'm using Windows 2000 Pro, Service Pack 2. And, I don't have my SQL Server CD with me.Any help is appreciated.Thanks.-Doug

Sounds like you will need to reinstall SQL Server, so go get your CD.

Agreed. Since this is just a workstation, the temporary solution was to download the Sql Server evaluation from Microsoft.com.At some point, when it isn't drop-dead urgent, I'll bring the CDs in.Thanks for the input.
