It's been awhile since I installed SQL on a PC. But today I downloaded a copy of SQL 2005 Express on a new PC. It seemed like everything installed properly. When I go into SQL Server Management Studio Express, I get the Connect to Server screen like I expected. But I am not sure what to do now. Since this is my first time opening SQL on this new PC, I want to create a new database. But the Server Name dropdown list does not have anything in it. I thought I could enter my database name here? Anyway, I am stuck here. How do I creae my database?

Thanks,

Bob

Specify your host's machine name if you installed the default instance. Otherwise MachineName\InstanceName.

Ok, I uninstalled SQL Server 2005 Express and installed again. THis time I used the default name of SQLExpress. I can now open SQL Express. But I have more problems. I created a database named EDI. I then right clicked on Tables and clicked New Table. Immediately, I get an error: Unspecified error (MS Visual Databse Tools). I assume I did not install something that I need? Can anyone tell me what I must do to fix this problem?

Thanks,

Bob

Can you instead try Management Studio?

You said: "Can you instead try Management Studio?"

Not sure I understand. I am using SQL Server Management Studio Express to sign into SQL. Is this what you mean?

Your error says this: "(MS Visual Databse Tools).", so I assumed you weren't using SSMS.

So what is causing this problem? I did a search on this problem and I find other forums where people are having the same problem. But no one has offered a solution. Does anyone know why I get this error?

Thanks,

Bob
