I removed Symantec AV in order to install a replacement AV software. After removing and rebooting SQL will not start. It gives the error "The application has failed to start because MSVCR71.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem." I have copied the msvcr71.dll from another system onto this system and attempted to register it but it gives "the file cannot be registered" error. I am not sure what to do. I don't want to reinstall SAV. What else can I do. The topic below talks about reinstalling a SP. Which SP would I install, Windows 2003 SP3 or SQL 2000 SP4?http://www.sqlteam.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=51348 Thanks already. |

I was hoping to get a reply from others but since I have not I had to figure it out on my own.Answer: I located both msvcr71.dll and msvcp71.dll from a system that still has SAV installed and copied them to \windows\system32 folder because that is where they were located originally. I then tried to register them using regsvr32 but like the post says they fail to register. I decided to reboot the server and apparently the files were recognized and used because SQL started working right away. All services were running and all apps work like before. Hope this helps. |
