| Elizabeth Teitsma writes "I recently upgraded my SQL 2000 server to SP3 to take care of the Slammer thing, but now the performance of Enterprise Manager is hideous! What used to take mere seconds to open now takes minutes! Any ideas? I'm trying to develop SQL applications and I just can't have SQL dragging like this! Please email me at Elizabeth.Teitsma@Alticor.com with any suggestions you may have. Thanks!Elizabeth" |

| Has the performance only dropped in Enterprise Manager or also in other applications? Enterprise Manager performance should already be slow due to the way it does things. If you are developing SQL applications, then use Query Analyzer instead of Enterprise Manager since QA is the more powerful of the two tools. As to why sp3 caused performance problems, I don't have the slightest clue. We are running sp2 with the latest cumulative security patches (this also protects you from the SQL slammer). We will not be installing sp3 until MS re-releases sp3, which they are going to do (well at least that's what our MS rep said) due to bugs that sp3 has introduced. You might want to uninstall sp3 and go back to sp2 and just install the latest cumulative security patch and then only install sp3 once MS re-releases it. |
